The Best Dinner Rolls

Everyone needs a good dinner roll recipe! These are some rolls that my family has a couple times a month. My mom has made them since I was a little girl and continues to make them for me and my family. They are so yummy with butter on them or honey or jam is my sons favorite. But I think my favorite thing is eating them with ham and cheese the day after! They are perfect for Thanksgiving or any special occasion or if you want to impress someone!

The Best Dinner Rolls

3 cups water, warm
2 cups sugar
1/2 cup butter
3 Tablespoons yeast
4 eggs, beaten
1 Tablespoon salt
2 Tablespoons shortening
6-8 cups of flour

Dissolve yeast on 1 cup of warm water mixed with 1 teaspoon sugar in a small bowl. In a mixer, pour 2 cups of water and add melted shortening and butter. Let cool. (So that it won't kill the yeast) Add beaten eggs, salt, sugar, and yeast mixture into the mixer. Add flour slowly until dough pulls away from sides of the bowl. Dough should definitely be sticky. Let rise until dough doubles. Then punch down. Let it rise until it doubles again and then punch down. Then make into rolls. Let them rise on a greased cookie sheet until in doubles a third time. Bake at 325 degrees F for 20-30 minutes or until tops are browned and the center is no longer doughy. Brush some melted butter on top when they get out of the oven.
