For 4th of July they start the morning with a race called the Rundola. My kids have done it the past 2 years and this year my husband ran it with them. It is a very family friendly race and many moms have babies in their carriers as the hike up the mountain with their kids. This year the participates got a hat, water bottle, bag, race bib and ribbon.
After the race they have an awards ceremony then the parade starts a few hours later! Our favorite is always when the planes fly over when the parade starts!
After the parade there is different activities around town plus a BBQ in the park put on by the wonderful volunteer fire department.
Later that night when the sun goes down they put on one of the best fireworks shows that I have seen. You are in the town's park in a canyon type environment where the fireworks echo and are in the sky directly above you which make it feel like the fireworks are falling right on top of you! It is amazing and a site to be seen for sure! I am sad that I didn't get any pictures of them. You will all just have to go there and witness them in person!
My kids absolutely love to ride the gondola back and forth into town. The Peaks Resort and Spa is great location and is walking distance to the gondola. We valeted our car at the hotel and never had to have them go get it until we left to go home. Everything is great location and there is plenty of fun and food to be eaten walking distance!
The views are absolutely breath taking and the summertime greens are the best! We love Telluride for a family vacation and love spending time there each summer during the 4th of July!
